SAM_0084This is the last post I am doing for my class and hopefully only an new beginning for my blog. It feels sad that the crazy times of shooting and re-shooting videos are over, that there will be no more writing overnight, because “I just found a more interesting topic”.

I was thinking of the topic for this post for a while and decided that sum up is too simple, because I (and I hope you too) have learned way beyond what was written in the posts and the technology used. I thought I would rather share something precious with you, but I could not find the Right topic. Suddenly, on my way from Serbia I have realized that during the past two weeks I have experienced a burst of creativity and a variety of life-changing event that I would like to share with you. So, let me begin.

This is a story of how a job can become more than just a source of money and how passion and dedication can bring you more that you could expect. The only fact I aways knew about my life after university is that I want to do something I enjoy. Millions of questions in my head were killing me every time I went to sleep and an eternal question:

What should I do with my life?

Probably a situation familiar to most graduating seniors. When the time came to make my plans more structured there was no creativity involved, pure judgement: “I love my work in AIESEC,  and I immensely enjoy PR and Communications development, so why not merge these two?” That is how I made a decision to apply for a position of Vice President Communications in AIESEC.

After the decision has been made, I needed to let my creativity flow. As most of you have discovered already, creativity never comes when you need it.  My application had a progress of 1 line day and I started to freak out that I will never be able to finish it.

Suddenly is the middle of nowhere, when my brain just stopped thinking, I found the inspiration and the ideas DSC_5901and the thoughts to put on paper. It took me 24 hours to write down every strategy and every idea I have come up with. I was AMAZED. My work process reminded me of the jokes about how creative work in all the advertising and design companies flows: a couple of months of, presumably, doing nothing and last minute before the deadline brilliant proposal. I always thought that it is all because of procrastination, however there is a scientific explanation of the phenomenon of creativity.

Neuroscientist and a writer Jonah Lehrer, explained a phenomenon of creativity as a work of our subconsciousness. In order for you to be able to create that Genius idea, the conscious needs to be desperate and switch to another topic. At that moment magic happens: even though we are not thinking about the issue any more, our subconsciousness keeps processing the information and provides us with the genius idea at the most unexpected moment.

I have even figured out a formula for myself, based in the study:

relevant info+irrelevant info+thinking+external environment+more thinking (time pressure) = !Genius Idea!

Believe it or not, but after I was done with the application, I felt that something was missing. The intuition of exhausted mind was telling me I have to do something more. I started looking around trying to understand what is the last piece of a puzzle I need to put to feel complete.

A couple of days later I realized there was AIESEC Conference in Serbia, where I could have a personal talk with my, hopefully, future employer. “Why not?” – I thought and with no doubts in mind I sacrificed my weekend and got on the train to Serbia. Despite sleepless nights in the train, new experience of traveling with smugglers and Serbian language challenge I felt excited feeling that something new awaits me.

One and a half days in Serbia passed as a dream: new places, new people, new opportunities. And the most amazing: an offer to go to Cuba to establish AIESEC there – more than I could ever imagine.

“So that was the missing part of the picture” – I thought and started packing luggage in my mind.

This post is not entirely about creativity, it is also about intuition, about following your instincts and dreams, about being yourself and never betraying it, because who know what might happen tomorrow.

As for the creativity part – none is born with it and to none it comes as a Birthday present. Creativity in any way is a fruit of hard work, total dedication and constant 24/7 . That is why creative people are those who are passionate about what they do – because they let the passion to absorb their mind.
